In 2010 The Kansas State Lodge became a member of the organization Coalition for Keeping The Kansas Promise. This organization is dedicated to keeping the retirement system in place that has served Kansas for many years. That is a system of defined benefits. An employee works for the government as a public servant for 30, 40, or more years. Legislators wish to change this system to a defined contribution plan.

This system is currently under attack from legislators that wish to once again make up for their overspending and lack of foresight on the backs of government employees. This effects any employee that is currently working or has retired from an organization that participates in the Kansas Public Employee Retirement System (KPERS).
Organizations that are covered under KPERS are:

State of Kansas Public Employees
Some State, County, and Municipal Police and Fire Departments
Teachers and Classified School Employees
Direct Care Nursing Staff
