  • Contract has been signed with Pinegar and Associates

Gentlemen of the FOP State Executive Board,

If you will recall, during the 2019 Conference the body of the membership requested that the president of the state lodge approach our lobbyist to see if he would be interested in lowering his fees and rates he charges for his services.  The membership's concerns over budgeting was supposedly at the base of this request.  However there was a "squeaky wheel", who seemed to be bringing up unsubstantiated information which seemed to throw a negative light on our present lobbyist.  At the time of this concern, we were addressing finances and it was not topical to discuss the preformance of our lobbyist, therefore the quality of work preformed by our lobbying association was not actually debated.  Those who benefited from all the lobbyist work were never able to speak on his behalf.  Additionally, the squeaky wheel offered no other solution as an alternative.

I probably work with John Pinegar the most out of anyone in the entire state and I believe he does an outstanding job.  I believe he charges a high but fair price for his services.  John's services are measured in what and who he knows, not necessarily the "tit for tat" some people would like to believe you would get.  He puts us at the table for discussion and people call on him for advice.  He then turns to us for our opinions.  I cannot tell you how many phone calls and discussions on separate bills I worked him on last year.

Since the conference, John and I have sat down several times and worked on a what an agreeable price would be.  Even without a contract, he has continued to work on the issues in the name of FOP with PTSD and with the legislation for Kansas Wildlife and Tourism (Lodge 59).

I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT PINEGAR AND ASSOCIATES HAVE AGREED TO LOWER THEIR CONTRACT RATE BY $5,OOO AND WILL PROVIDE SERVICES TO THE FOP FOR $40.0000 THIS YEAR WITH A POSSIBLE OPTION OF THAT RATE NEXT YEAR AS WELL.

    Thank you for being patient.

    Mik Shanks
